A New Love

My friend Rachel introduced me to the love of my life this summer ... ditch surfing. Who knew that a plywood board tied to a bridge over a canal could be so much fun but I find myself day dreaming about it constantly. For those of you who have never been exposed to this awesome sport allow me to post some examples of the wonders you too could behold if you join in this venture:

All you need is a long plywood board, a large canal, and a great group of friends and the summer memories will be priceless.

What do you do with two empty shampoo bottles?

One of the great things about being unemployed this summer is the time I get to spend with my nephew, Ammon Y.  For those who don't know my awesome little man, he falls in love with certain movies and watches them unceasingly until he knows it better than the director probably did.  Seriously.  He knows more about Star Wars than I do and he's two...

Anyway.... One of his favorite movies at the time is a classic.  The Rocketeer
(You all remember that you thought it was an awesome show when you were kids too.)
One day, Mom brought home a package of shampoo and conditioner from Sam's Club.  Immediately, A.Y. saw it and exclaimed, "It's the rocket-pack!!" and preceded to drag the two heavy bottles behind him for a week.  As much as he loved that "rocket-pack," I thought it needed to be vamped up a little.  Which I did.
He loved it so much he even let Grandma change his diaper without crying, which is quite a feat believe me.  The next three days I didn't see without the rocket-pack on and A.Y. dubbed me with the title of "Howard Hughes" who is the creator of the rocket-pack in the movie.  You'd think he'd died and gone to heaven.  Rocketeer heaven!

You ought to give Iowa a try!

You really ought to give Iowa
Hawkeye Iowa
Dubuque, Des
Moines, Davenport, Marshalltown,
Mason City, Keokuk, Ames,
Clear Lake
Ought to give Iowa a try!

Last week I had the chance to out to Iowa and visit my sister and her amazing family!  We had such an awesome time checking out the scenic attractions such as the cheese factory, the Amana colonies, a cute little yarn shop, and corn fields for miles.  It was a good trip and it was good to spend time with my sister and her husband and most importantly (sorry Riv!) those cute little niece and nephew of mine.  I love my family so much!!

you being in love
will tell who softly asks in love,

am i separated from your body smile brain hands merely
to become the jumping puppets of a dream? oh i mean:
entirely having in my careful how
careful arms created this at length
inexcusable, this inexplicable pleasure-you go from several
persons: believe me that strangers arrive
when i have kissed you into a memory
slowly, oh seriously
-that since and if you disappear

solemnly
myselves
ask "life, the question how do i drink dream smile

and how do i prefer this face to another and
why do i weep eat sleep-what does the whole intend"
they wonder. oh and they cry "to be, being, that i am alive
this absurd fraction in its lowest terms
with everything cancelled
but shadows
-what does it all come down to? love? Love
if you like and i like, for the reason that i
hate people and lean out of this window is love, love
and the reason that i laugh and breathe is oh love and the reason
that i do not fall into this street is love.
- E.E. Cummings

Oh goodness...it's time to get out of Rexburg!

MERRY CHRISTMAS YOU BIG FAT TUNAS!

I spent the last three day weekend (also Valentines weekend) down in Provo with my sister Neisah.  I love the girl, never a dull moment. Basically the weekend consisted of staying up, laughing hysterically, pineapple/peach salsa, Lovesacs, Salt Lake City, "grow your own boyfriends", heart shaped balloons, homeless people in city parks, and Kelly Clarkson's new song ("My Life Would Suck Without You") in no particular order.
Neisah thanks so much for letting me come and enjoy the craziness!  I truly am grateful for the fun that you get out of me when I'm around you.

Art Projects

Last night, Jen and I got together with some friends (Chelsea Camp, my roommate from last year, and Rebecca Stavast).  When planning this get together, Chelsea told us that we were doing "craft" or "art" projects like we used to do.  I had no recollection of these supposed past experience but I was game anyway.  I came to find out that what she was referring to was a game we used to play:
1. you write a sentence on a sheet of paper
2. pass it to the next person
3. they draw a picture of the sentence
4. fold the paper and pass again
5. the next person writes a sentence to explain the picture
It's really a funny game and we had a lot of fun last night.  Plus I got some pictures of our amazing artistic talents.

Then we played games and just talked.  It's always uplifting to be with good friends.

The Holy Land (a return to the bogging world)

Well I'm back!  I'm sure all two of you who read this will be thrilled.  I really don't have the time to do this but I can't take doing my homework any more.  I promise I'll try to keep things a bit updated though.  For those of you who didn't know, my father, sister, and I went on a tour of Jordan and Israel during the Christmas break.  It was truly an amazing experience.  When I was twelve years old, my entire family (at one time or another) lived in Jerusalem for a year.  I fell in love with the country then and it was great to go back and experience it again as an adult.  It is saddening to see the people of that land destroying each other but that is out of my hands.  All I can do is pray that somehow they can find peace in the Holy Land.
Now I'm back into the swing of things.  I have two new roommates who are great fun and I'm still sharing a room with my friend Jen!  She is my life force that helps me get through things without hurting people.  Yay for friends!
